Strip Muhyiddin's 'Tan Sri' title - Pahang deputy speaker

Pahang deputy speaker Lee Chin Chen has urged for the revocation of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s “Tan Sri” title.

He said this is because the Perikatan Nasional chairperson’s statement, which allegedly belittled the Pahang sultan’s role as the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, has confused Malaysians.

“The ‘Tan Sri’ title bestowed on Muhyiddin should be revoked with immediate effect. Muhyiddin’s defence of his speech is irresponsible and confuses the public.

“His remark not only challenges the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong but also causes confusion among the rakyat,” said Lee, who is also a DAP central executive committee member.

The police said they would record Muhyiddin’s (above) statement today after multiple police reports were lodged over his remarks during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.

During a speech, the Pagoh MP alleged that Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was biased when appointing the prime minister following the 15th general election in 2022.

Irked by the statement, Pahang crown prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah called on the police to act decisively against the Bersatu president.

Set good example

Elaborating, Lee said as a leader who has held senior government positions, Muhyiddin should set an example and respect the principles of the Constitution.

“Unfortunately, he chose to spread wrong, confusing statements, which goes to show that he does not deserve to hold the country’s highest title.

“Muhyiddin’s act has not only tarnished the royal institution but is also capable of destroying the people’s trust in the constitutional democracy that the country practises.

“I urge Muhyiddin’s ‘Tan Sri’ title to be revoked to defend the country’s dignity and sovereignty,” he added.

The title, he said, is an honour only for those who truly uphold noble values and respect the country’s fundamentals.

Muhyiddin was bestowed the title in 1988 by then-Agong, the late Johor ruler Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail.
