Journo's sexual harassment case: Fahmi to meet cops over NFA decision

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil plans to meet with cops over a sexual harassment case involving a female journalist, which reportedly has been classified as “no further action” (NFA).

Addressing a press conference in Putrajaya, Fahmi (above) said he had only learnt about the matter recently and intends to raise the matter with the police soon.

“I just received information on this matter and plan to discuss it with the police.

“But until then, I cannot comment more than this,” he said.

Yesterday, it was reported that the case against a man who allegedly sexually harassed a female journalist has been determined as NFA by the authorities.

Bernama quoted Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad as saying that the NFA decision was made by the deputy public prosecutor’s office.

In the July 3 incident, a Pakatan Harapan media personnel was arrested after he allegedly sexually harassed a female journalist who was covering a small event during the Sungai Bakap by-election in Penang.

The incident purportedly occurred when the journalist and other members of the media were doorstopping Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at a campaign event in Sungai Kecil.

Fahmi also urged media practitioners to lodge police reports and inform him if they are sexually harassed.

The minister gave his assurance that their reports would not fall on deaf ears, and the Communications Ministry would try its best to ensure security for all media practitioners.
