UMNO AGM | Umno is ready to consider a proposal from the party’s Puteri wing for the age limit of their members to be raised from 35 to 40 years old.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in his winding-up speech at the party’s general assembly today promised to raise Puteri Umno’s proposal to the party’s supreme council.
This was despite objection to the move raised by his daughter, Nurulhidayah, earlier in her speech.
“The issue of raising the age limit to 40... the one who spoke earlier (and objected) is ‘not the president’s daughter’ but a Wanita Umno delegate.
“However, the decision by us in the top leadership is to carefully listen to the preference of Puteri Umno, and we will raise it with the supreme council,” said Zahid at Dewan Merdeka of the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
Earlier, a Puteri Umno delegate proposed increasing the age limit for the sake of the wing’s survival.

Puteri Umno executive council member Siti Nor Hasyyati Abd Rahman said the change was necessary because 153 Puteri Umno division heads would pass the age limit of 35 years.
“Allow me to bring the voice of the Puteri which was agreed upon during the Puteri Umno general assembly on Aug 22.
“In the general assembly, we requested and pleaded that the age limit be increased from 35 years to 40 years,” she said when debating the president’s policy speech.
However, Nurulhidayah suggested that Puteri members who have passed the age of 35 move up to become Wanita Umno members, adding that this meant there was no need to increase the wing’s age limit.
Meanwhile, Zahid also announced the appointment of Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Ramli Mohd Nor as an Umno supreme council member representing the Orang Asli.
“In order to appreciate the Orang Asli community, especially in Nenggiri, and the Orang Asli community throughout the country, I hereby decide that Ramli, the Cameron Highlands MP who represents the Orang Asli, will sit in the supreme council,” said Zahid.
