'Hulk' plans comeback to save 'depressing' Malacca state assembly

Former Malacca assemblyperson Norhizam Hassan Baktee is planning to make a political comeback after a three-year hiatus.

Norhizam, who previously gave himself the nickname “Hulk”, is planning to contest under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner in the next state election, which is expected to be held by November 2026, Free Malaysia Today reported.

“I want to make a comeback as the people of Malacca still need me. I am told that the state assembly sittings are rather depressing in my absence,” the controversial politician was quoted telling the portal.

Norhizam (above) has yet to choose which PN component party he wants to join, but did not dismiss the possibility of it being PAS.

“There are parties who have been eyeing me, so I’m mulling these options. I see no harm in joining PAS and if I do, I will wear an Islamic turban in the state assembly.”

Serial jumper

Norhizam, who was an Umno member, joined DAP in 2006. He then managed to win the Pengkalan Batu state seat in 2018 on the DAP ticket.

After the Sheraton Move political coup in 2020, he quit DAP to become an independent assemblyperson in support of the BN and PN state governments.

In October 2021, Norhizam joined former Umno Malacca chief minister Idris Haron’s move to withdraw his support for the then government led by Umno’s Sulaiman Md Ali.

That caused the state government to collapse, triggering a snap state election.

DAP opposed Norhizam’s request to stand in the November 2021 state election on the Pakatan Harapan ticket. He then contested as an independent but lost.

Both DAP and Umno had then closed their doors to Norhizam’s bid to join their fold to contest in the 15th general election, the following year.

In 2018, Norhizam admitted that he is short-tempered and apologised for his outburst during a dialogue with residents over a road closure.
