Azwan Ali has urged popular radio station Hot FM to apologise after two of its hosts were seen laughing at former minister Khairy Jamaluddin after he appeared to mock Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on air.

The vocal celebrity, also known as Diva AA, pointed out that it was improper for radio hosts to make fun of the nation’s leader.

“I am not an Anwar fan nor his apple-polisher but I have never criticised a leader during a live show.

“The deejays were seen having a good laugh (after Anwar was mocked)… of course, people would get angry. It’s not like you’re the only one who despises him.

“What makes me livid is why did they delete the video? Just come forward and apologise,” Azwan said on X.

Mind your manners, KJ

Taking Khairy to task, Azwan reminded the former Umno leader that his social standing does not give him the leeway to behave rudely.

“To KJ (Khairy), mind your manners. Don’t think you act as you please just because you’re Pak Lah’s (former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) son-in-law.”

It should be noted that Azwan, 58, is also the brother of Bersatu supreme council member Azmin Ali.

Two days ago, Hot FM came under fire after it appeared Khairy had mocked Anwar by emulating a line - “Hari ini saya menang, esok…” (If I win today, tomorrow I will…) - the prime minister often used to make promises before winning the last general election.

A clip posted on TikTok showed Khairy quipping that if he won Berita Harian’s upcoming Anugerah Bintang Popular award, he would treat everyone to a meal.

“Saudara-saudari, hari ini saya menang, besok kita makan ramai-ramai (ladies and gentleman, if I win today, tomorrow, we will have a feast tomorrow),” Khairy said amid laughter.

After a brief exchange with the hosts, Khairy stated, “Saya ulang… (I repeat)” - another of Anwar’s familiar phrases - before chuckling again.

Some even called for a boycott of the popular Malay language station.

However, human rights lawyer Eric Paulsen criticised the calls for a boycott and referred to those netizens as having zero principles, citing how former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was also mocked by Pakatan Harapan supporters in the past.
