PAS divorces sensibleness with wedlock votes proposal - DAP rep

It is common knowledge that PAS is unable to win the hearts and minds of non-Muslims with its theocratic agenda. But a Selangor PAS Youth leader offered a solution - marriage.

However, this courted brickbats and the latest comes from DAP assemblyperson Preakas Sampunathan, who had some scathing words.

According to him, Selangor PAS Youth secretary Aubidullah Fahim’s proposal was “senseless, shallow and dishonourable”.

Apart from this, the Kota Kemuning assemblyperson said: “It shows extreme disrespect toward the non-Malay citizens of this country.”

“Is this how PAS respects Malaysia’s diversity? By viewing non-Malay citizens as mere political tools rather than human beings with rights, dignity, and aspirations?

“This is clear evidence that PAS is neither serious nor sincere in addressing the needs and concerns of the non-Malay community. They see only votes, not people,” he added.

Cheap political tricks

Preakas (above) claimed that the proposal also highlighted the narrow-mindedness in PAS, which fails to grasp the foundation of unity and harmony among races that form the backbone of this nation.

“PAS seems more focused on cheap political tricks and manipulation rather than genuinely serving the people. This cross-cultural marriage proposal is an insult to the institution of marriage, which should be based on love, trust, and mutual understanding, not a despicable political strategy to win votes,” he added.

On the one hand, Preakas said, PAS claims it does not want to alienate non-Muslims, but on the other hand, its words and deeds point in that direction.

“This shows that PAS is only interested in using non-Malays as political pawns, not as equal partners in nation-building.

“I urge all Malaysians, especially the non-Malay community, not to be deceived by such political tactics.

"We need leaders who truly understand the meaning of respect, not those who treat us as mere numbers in their political games.

“PAS has shown that they are unworthy of our trust when it comes to racial unity and national harmony,” he added.

Yesterday, Aubidullah told the PAS Youth muktamar that members should marry non-Malay women to secure more votes.

In response, Pas Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said the remarks were merely the opinion of one delegate and should not be taken seriously.
