'Help Siti Mastura hire researcher, not translator for Teresa'

PAS MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari was told to redirect his offer of contributing funds - intended for DAP’s Teresa Kok to hire a translator - to someone more deserving.

DAP’s Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng told Fadhli to contribute funds to PAS MP Siti Mastura Muhammad to hire a researcher so she would not make false statements.

“This funding could help her avoid making unfounded claims, such as alleged family ties between Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, and the communist leader Chin Peng.

“It is clear that she would be a more deserving recipient of the RM300.

“As the saying goes, charity begins at home,” Lip Eng said in a statement today.

Previously, amid controversy surrounding her statement about a proposal to make halal certification mandatory for certain food establishments, Kok blamed ChatGPT for her apparent poor choice of words.

Malaysiakini’s own checks based on the original Chinese-language statement and the Malay translation found the contentious word “memalukan” (embarrassing) to be accurate.

In response to Kok’s statement, Fadhli sarcastically said yesterday that if the government provides Perikatan Nasional MPs with constituency development funds, he would donate a portion of it to Kok.

“RM300 a month for a ‘part-time’ SPM graduate assistant specialised in doing translation work into Malay.

“Surely, Pakatan Harapan and BN supporters will be happy with my spirit today.”

Lip Eng, however, suggested helping Siti Mastura instead by hiring researchers to conduct thorough research before her speeches.

In a speech last year, Siti Mastura claimed several DAP leaders have blood ties with communist and Singapore leaders, which turned out to be sourced from a BN election pamphlet that has been discredited.

“As a PhD holder, she should have exercised greater caution in relying on such an unverified source - essentially a fairy tale - especially given its lack of an identifiable author, ISBN, or publisher,” Lip Eng said.

Kit Siang, Guan Eng, and Kok have sued Siti Mastura over her allegations and the case is pending in court.
