Man who put toddler son amid burning rubbish heap arrested

Police last night arrested a man for allegedly hitting his toddler and placing the boy amid burning rubbish. 

In a video of the abuse, which was sent to his estranged wife, the two-year-old was seen wailing while standing inside what looked like a ring of flames. He was about 30cm away from the fire. 

The arrest was made after a complaint was lodged by the man’s estranged wife late yesterday evening, Kosmo! reported Kuantan district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu as saying.

He said the 35-year-old was arrested at about 10.30pm last night at a bus stop near SMK Maran 2 in Maran and is believed to be trying to flee with the child.

According to the police report, the complainant said the man had pronounced divorce (talak) against her and kicked her out of his home on Sept 15.

Muslim men can make a verbal pronouncement of divorce, but under Malaysian syariah enactments, the syariah court must also ascertain this. 

The woman said she returned her son to his father’s home in Beserah at about 5.25pm on Sept 17 and received several videos from her ex-husband that night and the next day, Wan Zahari said. 

Besides the video of the boy amid flames, she said she also received a video of the man scolding and hitting the terrified boy.
