Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will know on Nov 18 whether he can commence a challenge to reverse Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged cancellation of RM730,300 allocation to his Muar parliamentary constituency.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court set the decision date for the former Muda president’s application for leave to commence judicial review to get the constituency funding.

Judge Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh earlier today heard oral submissions from Syed Saddiq's counsel Lim Wei Jiet and the government’s representatives from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

The AGC is objecting to the legal action on the grounds that the civil court has no jurisdiction to hear the issue of government allocation to parliamentary constituencies.

Under the law, the civil court requires leave before hearing the merits of a judicial review, to weed out challenges that are frivolous, vexatious and amount to abuse of court process.

On April 23, former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq as well as three other applicants filed the action. The other three applicants are voters in the Muar constituency.

The former Muda president also seeks an order of certiorari to quash an alleged decision by the two respondents - the premier (who is not named) and the federal government - to cancel the applicant’s access to the myKHAS system that managed an application for RM2 million allocation for Muar.

According to a copy of his affidavit, Syed Saddiq claimed that the alleged decision came right after Muda decided to pull out of the coalition government on Sept 10 last year.

The former Bersatu youth chief said despite having met Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof twice up to April to discuss the matter, Anwar and the government allegedly still failed to channel the allocation to his constituency.

Syed Saddiq noted that five opposition parliamentarians who pledged support to Anwar immediately got full allocations to their constituencies.

The cited opposition politicians are Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, and Tanjong Karang MP Zulkafperi Hanapi.
