Sex toys worth RM1.3m destroyed - ministry official

The Home Ministry has disposed of 27,035 units of sex toys worth RM1.3 million which were seized at several premises in Penang, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur this year.

Ministry official Nik Yusaimi Yussof said the enforcement and confiscation process was decided through a court order under Section 19(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA) 1984.

“The method of disposal is by destroying silicone, plastic, and so on until they don’t look like the original and cannot work anymore.

“Most of the toys are from China, Thailand, and some other Asian countries and were sold at a price of RM50 to RM800,” said the secretary of the ministry’s enforcement and control division.

“All those items were seized from storerooms, warehouses, and business premises. There are others still undergoing the court process,” he added.

Yusaimi was speaking at a press conference on the disposal of the goods, totalling 5,800kg in weight, in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, today.

He said the ministry is working with e-commerce platforms to prevent sex toys from being sold online, including via “keywords” to make it difficult for buyers to find them.

“However, unscrupulous sellers still use various tricks so their products are not blocked and continue to be advertised to attract buyers,” he said.

Yusaimi said the ministry will take strict action against anyone involved in printing, importing, producing, publishing, selling, or distributing the results of prohibited publications that may harm public morals and order.

He added that this public announcement on the disposal by the Home Ministry is important to give awareness to the public about offences involving sex toys.
