S'gor Fire and Rescue Dept: 20 households evacuated in Taman Melawati landslide

The police have ordered the residents of 20 homes in Taman Melawati, Hulu Klang to evacuate after a landslide today, said the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

“Instructions from the police directed residents of 20 houses to evacuate.

“Information on victims will be updated from time to time,” said the department’s assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar.

This morning, a landslide occurred on Jalan E6 in Taman Melawati following heavy rain across the Klang Valley, which saw several areas reporting flash floods.

Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that the Dewan Rakyat session started late today as many MPs were delayed due to flash floods in Kuala Lumpur.

When contacted, Hulu Kelang assemblyperson Azmin Ali told Malaysiakini that he had instructed the landowner to be contacted with orders to maintain the slope with advice from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

“No development should be allowed on the slope or top of the hill in accordance with the slope development guidelines approved by the expert,” he said.

He earlier held discussions with MPAJ and a technical team from the Gombak district office for a technical assessment to be made as soon as possible.

This is so that residents can be informed to preserve their safety, he explained.

He said he was at the site of the landslide at 10am, and had visited other locations in Kampong Pasir and Kampong Fajar.
