Bersatu polls: Muhyiddin calls for unity, youth wing in revolt

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has called for party unity between both its wing-level election winners and losers.

However, a rebellion is brewing within the youth wing, with newly elected vice-chief Faiz Rahmad disputing the outcome.

In a statement yesterday, Faiz alleged interference, irregularities and questionable decisions by the party’s election committee.

This includes allegations of some divisions being barred from voting, or experiencing a sudden surge of members eligible to cast their ballots.

“The main question that the election committee must answer is whether the election this time was truly transparent or was there any plans or interference by certain individuals with a personal agenda to determine the Bersatu Youth election outcome,” Faiz said.

Yesterday, the election committee announced that Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham had won the youth chief post.

Hilman is closely aligned with Azmin Ali, a prominent Bersatu leader who is curiously sitting out the party election.

The youth chief race results caused an upset, as it was previously reported that Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir had won the post based on unofficial results.

In both the official and unofficial results, the race was a tight one.

‘Accept results with open heart’

Muhyiddin in a statement today called on the party to accept the election results.

“To those who lost, accept the results well and with an open heart.

“Whether the victor or loser, our responsibility after this is to close ranks, strengthen unity, and continue our struggle,” he said.

Besides the youth wing, there had also been disputes prior to the results within Bersatu’s non-bumiputera associate members’ wing.

As for the women’s wing, Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin was confirmed as its new chief yesterday.
