Johor Umno chides 'ungrateful' Amanah over polls challenge

Johor Amanah’s readiness to challenge BN in the next state election has drawn a sharp rebuke from an Umno leader, who branded the Pakatan Harapan component party as “tak sedar diuntung” (ungrateful).

In a statement, Johor Umno secretary Abdul Halim Suleiman chided the state Amanah leadership for trying to pick a fight for being denied positions in the BN-led state government.

“In my opinion, Umno has no problem getting into a war and fighting against Amanah in the next state election or general election, but now isn’t the time for us to play politics.

“Johor Amanah is also acting like an ungrateful person. In the 15th general election, Amanah only managed to secure one parliamentary seat and one state seat in Johor. Even then, they won the seats not because the party was strong but more towards depending on DAP.

“So my advice to Johor Amanah is do not be arrogant because you are only living off DAP’s sympathy in Harapan. But now you are trying to act like you are a champion,” he said on Facebook.

Halim’s statement came in response to Johor Amanah deputy chairperson Dzulkefly Ahmad, who yesterday reportedly announced the state chapter’s plans to contest between 12 and 20 Johor state seats in the next election.

According to media reports, Dzulkefly had indicated Johor Amanah’s readiness to face the election including the possibility of having a three-way fight with BN and Perikatan Nasional.

Halim claimed that the Johor Amanah leader’s remarks showed the latter’s greed and willingness to do whatever it takes to get their way.
