Official Malacca govt portal to feature AI chatbot

The Malacca government’s official portal and the Malacca Tourism Portal will feature artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots to reduce response time to enquiries, even after office hours, the state assembly sitting was told today.

State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairperson Fairul Nizam Roslan said the use of AI technology would not only speed up communication with the Tourism Promotion Division (BPP) and public enquiries to the Corporate Communications Division, but also provide more efficient and effective support, in line with the aspiration to strengthen the government’s service delivery system.

“In line with the government’s desire to accelerate AI adoption in key sectors, the Malacca government is committed to taking proactive steps to improve public service delivery by exploring AI through the chatbot.

“The state government, through the State Economic Planning Unit, Information Technology and Communication Division, and BPP, also plans to launch Malacca AI Smart Heritage Tourism next year, with its implementation currently in the planning and discussion stages.

“In addition, the Hang Tuah Museum, located at Hang Tuah Centre, Duyong, has made history as Malaysia’s first museum to use AI technology to tell the story of Hang Tuah. This new approach was introduced to enhance the state’s tourism products,” he said in response to a question from Zahari Abd Kalil (BN-Durian Tunggal) regarding the state government’s policy on AI technology.

Elaborating, Fairul said that the automation process through AI could help reduce government operating costs and minimise the waste of resources such as paper, printing, time, and energy.

In the meantime, he said that next year, the economic planning unit would revisit the Smart Malacca Blueprint 2035 document, incorporating new policies and strategies to support the development and application of AI initiatives in the administration, social, and economic aspects of the state government.

He said that the development and adaptation of AI technology were crucial for driving the economic growth of the state government, improving various socio-economic sectors, enhancing security, and ensuring that Malacca remained competitive in the rapidly evolving global landscape.

“With the right policies and continuous support, AI has the potential to bring about significant changes in the administration, social, and economic aspects of Malacca and can be utilised across all sectors to improve the people’s well-being,” he said.

Fairul said that, in addition, the Malacca State Big Data Development Plan 2035, which would be launched this month, was a long-term commitment by the state government to ensure that Malacca remained at the forefront of the big data revolution.

He said that the plan outlined an important strategy for strengthening digital infrastructure, expanding the use of AI, and ensuring that every sector could optimally utilise big data technology for the sustainable development of the state.
