The MACC has completed its investigation into the alleged corruption scandal involving several Sabah state assemblypersons.

Chief commissioner Azam Baki said the investigation papers have been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP).

“It’s up to them to take further action,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Dubbed “Ops Dun”, MACC launched an investigation after Malaysiakini published several videos from a whistleblower alleging corruption in the issuance of mining exploration licences.

The whistleblower, who is a businessperson, claimed that he bribed the assemblypersons to obtain the licences.

Elaborating, Azam said the first investigation paper involves the whistleblower and the former senior staff from a Sabah mineral governing agency.

“In addition, our team also collaborated with the police on the issue.

“Both teams exchanged information on the investigations involving the duo and have handed the investigation papers to the DPP. I was told the police did the same too.

“Now, it depends on the Attorney-General’s Chambers to decide to charge anyone based on the first investigation papers,” Azam said.

Eight assemblypersons

As for the second investigation which involved eight assemblypersons, Azam said the AGC has handed the investigation papers back to the MACC.

“As for the eight representatives, I must stress that until now, the investigation only revolves around the videos published by a news portal.

“However, the whistleblower didn’t share the videos with us.

“We concluded our probe last week and submitted the details to the DPP but the latter had instructed our investigating officers to get further statements,” he mentioned, adding that the AGC had given them until the end of the month to complete it.

“I assure you that in February, I will personally give everyone an update on the matter.”
