'DAP better learn Islamic basics than teach PAS about Chinese names'

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has sarcastically "thanked" DAP for offering to pay for lessons to educate PAS about Chinese names.

However, he said it would be better for DAP to enrol its leaders in a basic Islamic education class instead.

"This is because there is a DAP minister who said something that wasn't a hadith, a hadith.

"This is a major insult to the Prophet Muhammad and a far bigger error than misidentifying Chinese names or culture.

"There has been no apology for this mistake to this day, as though there was no mistake," Fadhli (above) said in a Facebook post last night.

The minister in question is Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

A video published by Nga on Oct 4 last year, had him saying: "We know the Prophet Muhammad had said in a hadith, 'rumahku syurgaku' (my home is my heaven)".

He said this while speaking about a proposed incentive to help youths pay housing deposits for their first home.

Hadiths are recorded sayings of Prophet Muhammad.

After Nga's remarks went viral last October, experts have refuted the existence of any hadith in which the prophet said anything akin to a home being heaven.

However, Umno ulama council deputy chairperson Khairuddin Aman Razali said there was a hadith in which the prophet said: “Four things are part of happiness: a righteous spouse, a spacious dwelling, a righteous neighbour, and a comfortable mount (means of transportation)."

PAS vs DAP

Yesterday, Penang DAP organising secretary Phee Boon Chee was reported as saying that the state party chapter is raising funds to provide PAS leaders and members with courses on Chinese names.

"Penang DAP is prepared to secure funds and support from cultural figures to organise these courses, given the frequent inaccurate statements about non-Malay communities.

“If PAS truly understands the customs and culture of non-Malay communities, it would not issue statements that offend other ethnic groups, particularly the Chinese community," he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

Last week, Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria wrongly claimed that Hannah Yeoh was the daughter of YTL Group founder Yeoh Tiong Lay.

Prior to that, Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhamad lost a defamation suit brought on by three DAP leaders, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, and Teresa Kok after claiming that the Lims were related to former communist leader Chin Peng, and Kok was a cousin to the Lims.
