PARLIAMENT | Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan has condemned US President Donald Trump’s plan to oust Palestinians from Gaza as “beyond sane thought”.

Mohamad, popularly known as Tok Mat, told the Dewan Rakyat today that Trump’s statement contradicts all international conventions and treaties.

“So we support (Palestinians) and we vehemently reject (Trump’s proposal).

“We vehemently insist that what is being suggested, what has already been said, is beyond sane thought,” he said in response to a question from Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar).

Shahar asked for Malaysia’s reaction to Trump, who announced his plan to take over the Gaza Strip and resettle Palestinians elsewhere.

Mohamad said the Foreign Ministry has already issued a statement stating its disagreement and rejection of Trump’s proposal.

Asean will shortly follow with a statement of its own, Mohamad added.

He affirmed Malaysia’s pro-Palestine stance, adding that Palestinians have the right to an independent country of their own.

“Which way is up to them. If the two-state solution is the best for now, then by all means, because we have no other ways left,” he said.

The two-state solution dates back to the Oslo Accords 1993 when Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organisation agreed to the existence of Israel and Palestine side-by-side.
