Cops confirm man found dead at Treasury's office

A 45-year-old man believed to be a Finance Ministry staff was found dead in an office at the Treasury Department this morning, according to police.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa confirmed an emergency call was received at 10.56am - which led to the discovery of the body by a team from Putrajaya district police dispatched to the Finance Ministry.

“Initial checks found the deceased on the office floor, with the neck and legs tied using a cable tie.

“No criminal elements were found at the scene. The case is classified as a ‘sudden death report’ (SDR),” he said in a statement.

The deceased’s remains have been sent to Putrajaya Hospital’s Forensics and Pathology Department for an autopsy, he added.

Police urged the public not to speculate on the case.

‘Too early to comment’

When asked by reporters, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said it was too early to comment on the case.

“Let the police investigate this incident. So far, we are yet to be able to issue any statement until the police conduct their investigation.

“God-willing, based on developments of the investigation, I’ll ask the police to share information that is considered important and reasonable to be revealed to the media,” he said at the Home Ministry’s breaking of fast event in Putrajaya today.
