DAP lawyers handling matters on Raub MP's arrest - Loke

DAP is leaving all legal matters to its party lawyers following the arrest of Raub MP Chow Yu Hui on suspicion of obstructing a public servant from performing official duties.

Party secretary-general Anthony Loke said he was informed that party lawyers were present during Chow’s arrest.

“Our lawyers are handling the matter and were indeed with him during the process of taking his statement. We will manage the issue according to legal procedures.

“I understand he was detained today,” he told reporters after a DAP disaster relief fund event for victims of a gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, today.

Loke, who is also the transport minister, was commenting on Chow’s arrest.

Earlier today, police arrested Chow and Wilson Chang, the chairperson of Save Musang King Alliance (Samka).

A member of Chow’s team said the arrest was made under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out their duties.

Both were detained at 4pm while giving their statements at the Raub district police headquarters.

When contacted, Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman confirmed the arrest in a text message.

Yesterday, Raub district police chief Shahril Abd Rahman said Chow and four others would be called in to assist in investigations into the obstruction of civil servants during an enforcement operation at a durian farm in Raub.

Shahril said Chow, who also serves as an adviser to Samka, was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code based on three police reports linked to the operation.

Last week, durian farmers clashed with state officials who were cutting down Musang King trees on disputed land near Sungai Klau.
