PKR national congress to begin a day earlier on May 24

PKR has decided to move up the schedule for its national congress in Johor by one day.

According to a brief note shared by the party secretariat with reporters, the annual general meeting will now be held on Saturday, May 24, instead of their earlier plan (Sunday, May 25).

With the new schedule, the party’s Youth and Women’s wings will be having their congress on May 22, with the opening ceremonies held the night before.

On May 23, the party will hold its central election during the day, followed by an opening ceremony for the national congress in the evening.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said in a statement that the decision was made to accommodate the Asean Summit, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur on May 26 and 27.

“The realignment of schedule was done as our party president is also the prime minister, who has the official duty of welcoming Asean heads of state who are expected to arrive in Malaysia on May 25.

“PKR would like to express our appreciation to all parties for their understanding and support towards ensuring the smooth running of this very important congress,” she said.

Last month, Fuziah reportedly said the national congress is expected to see around 10,000 delegates attending in person, while more than 20,000 delegates will vote online for the party election.
