Nurul Izzah: Great start for PKR, Saifuddin's reminder timely

Nurul Izzah Anwar described the party’s just-concluded national congress in Johor Bahru as a positive start, pointing to a heartfelt reminder from Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“I’m so happy (Pakatan Harapan secretary-general) Saifuddin got the chance to speak,” said the newly elected deputy president to reporters.

“I think it is good today that we get to speak from the heart, and it is easier that way.”

Earlier, Saifuddin made a surprise appearance on stage, delivering an emotional address where he said party president Anwar Ibrahim has a duty to mend any lingering unhappiness stemming from the party’s internal election campaign.

He also shared that he chose to accompany former deputy president Rafizi Ramli last night, while others were celebrating Nurul Izzah’s victory.

Commenting further, Nurul Izzah stressed the need for continuous introspection and open dialogue across all levels of the party.

“To me, it’s not just about today - we want everyone at the central level, state level, and branch level to come together, reflect, and offer constructive criticism to one another,” she said.

“We cannot deny anyone’s efforts and contributions. Everyone has their stories, everyone has their sacrifices, so in that spirit, I think it’s a great start.”
