The recent Islamic affairs briefing in Negeri Sembilan was part of an inclusive and integrated governance approach involving members of the state executive council, including non-Muslims, the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (Mains) said today.

In a statement, Mains said the briefing held on May 20 was attended by state Islamic council members, heads of religious agencies and district officers.

“The attendance was in line with the directive and consent of the Negeri Sembilan ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, aimed at providing exposure and deepening understanding of Islamic administration in the state,” the statement said.

The briefing also covered achievements by state religious institutions, including efforts to strengthen Islamic education, digitalise Islamic bodies, and implement Modul Aulad Sejahtera, an early childhood education initiative promoting moral values and Adat Perpatih customs across communities and religions.

Mains noted it had previously conducted a similar briefing with all state assembly members, including non-Muslims from both government and opposition, on Oct 8 last year.

The council said this approach reflects its commitment to progressive, inclusive Islamic governance, aligned with aspirations for unity and shared progress among all citizens of Negeri Sembilan.

A media portal today questioned the presence of the state’s Industry and Non-Muslim Affairs Committee chairperson Teo Kok Seong at the briefing, noting it was unrelated to his portfolio.
