Remand extended for man who slashed ex-girlfriend at private university

The police have extended until Monday (July 21) the remand for a man who assaulted his ex-girlfriend at a private university in Subang Jaya.

Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the suspect was initially remanded for four days starting July 15 to 18.

He said that the victim is in stable condition at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, where she was sent after the attack.

"The victim is still unable to provide a statement," he told the media.

He added that the police have recorded statements from 12 individuals, including the university's staff, the victim's friends, and witnesses.

The incident took place on July 14, when the 21-year-old foreign national allegedly slashed his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend at a private university in Subang Jaya.

Wan Azlan said the attack was believed to have stemmed from the suspect’s anger over remarks made by the victim, who had accused him of restricting her freedom to leave the house.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

According to Section 323 of the act, this is punished with imprisonment up to a year, a fine of not more than RM2,000, or both.
