'You killed my sister!' - Cyberjaya student murder suspect confronted in court

Tensions erupted at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court this morning when a man - believed to be a relative of the university student brutally murdered in Cyberjaya on June 24 - confronted the main suspect in a sudden outburst of grief and rage.

The dramatic confrontation unfolded around 9.50am, just as the main suspect, flanked by two others, was being escorted out of the courtroom following a remand extension hearing.

As the trio emerged, the man moved towards them and shouted: “Woi! You killed my younger sister, use your brain a little - you caused my sister’s death!”

Police officers swiftly intervened, restraining the man before the situation could escalate further, Berita Harian reported.

The magistrate had earlier allowed a remand extension for the trio until next Thursday (July 10). The initial remand order expired today.

Police action questioned

M Manoharan, the lawyer representing the main suspect, questioned the police’s actions in issuing a statement alleging that his client had “bad intentions”.

He said the investigation is still ongoing and that the police should not be making such statements, as under the law, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

“We have raised our objections to the magistrate regarding the conduct of Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, who issued statements and snippets of evidence that could jeopardise my client’s case.

“This is a very serious matter - the role of the police is to investigate, and we have wise, educated, and competent judges to determine who is guilty and who is not,” he said.

‘Bad intentions’

On Tuesday, Hussein revealed that the main suspect had spent several nights at the Cyberjaya condominium where the murder occurred, as his girlfriend, also under arrest, was the victim’s housemate.

He said investigations revealed that the 20-year-old suspect’s girlfriend had handed him the access card and keys to the condominium before the incident.

“The police found that this case was more about the suspect taking advantage of the victim, who lived alone in the house. The suspect had bad intentions towards the victim.

“He was at the property using the access card and keys provided by his girlfriend, who had returned to her hometown after examinations.

“In that situation, the suspect, who already had ill intentions, took the opportunity to hit the victim with a blunt object, which caused her death, and robbed her.

“Before that, he had stayed overnight at the unit with his girlfriend. On the night of the incident, while staying in the room, he had met the victim, leading to the fatal incident,” he said.
