Muda won't stop members from joining 'Turun Anwar' rally

Muda will not stop its members from joining the “Turun Anwar” rally slated for July 26, said its acting president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz.

She stressed that her party respects the people’s right to assemble peacefully.

“We are not one of its organisers (the rally), but we will not stop our members from participating,” Amira said during a press conference in Petaling Jaya today after being asked if Muda would participate in it.

The demonstration is aimed at pressuring Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to resign.

Earlier, Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad confirmed that the rally organiser had sent an official notification to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

According to the police, they expect between 10,000 and 15,000 people to participate in the rally, despite an opposition figure citing higher numbers.

Five reforms

Amira urged Anwar to implement five major reforms before calling for the 16th general election.

The reforms are for the government to address the rising cost of living, abolish oppressive laws, review the Urban Renewal Bill, place the MACC under parliamentary purview and devolve the prime minister’s powers when it comes to appointing people to key positions.

“If the government fails to fulfil its promises of reforms, then we urge Malaysians to reject Anwar and his administration.

“Politicians must be taught a lesson that they cannot simply ignore the promises made to the rakyat.”
