'Don't be surprised, youth could yet turn to ChatGPT to pick GE16 candidates'

PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS must ensure its presence in the virtual world in reaching out to young voters, PAS Youth said.

This is especially so as a large number of voters in the past elections were from the “digital generation”, said its chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudeen.

“There are various categories among non-PAS voters, where some of their lives are centred around social media such as TikTok.

“We are faced with voters who are living in the world of AI (artificial intelligence), who are part of the digital generation and are sensitive to current developments, like to make comparisons and be listened to.

“For them, being heard is enough to comfort them (and therefore) because the digital and AI world is so powerful, we must come forward in leading and telling them (to separate) which are fact and fiction,” he said in his closing speech at PAS muktamar held at the party’s complex in Alor Setar, Kedah, today.

He added that the party must not only lead in the real world but also in the virtual world by forming good algorithms.

“Don’t be surprised if, in the next election, the young people will ask ChatGPT to choose candidates. They don’t care about campaigns, posters, banners or billboards.

“They don’t look at all that, but may turn to ChatGPT, which will answer them based on its algorithms’ input.”

The Alor Setar MP further emphasised that PAS need to use a different approach in their efforts to lead the youth, where he gave an example of the recent Yamaha RX-Z 135 motorcycles ridden into the main hall during the party’s Youth muktamar opening on Friday.

This, he claimed, received extensive coverage in the mainstream and social media, which is the way young people do politics nowadays.

“Whether we like it or agree with it, that’s the way they (the youth) do politics,” he said.
