Bersatu disciplinary board postpones proceedings against Wan Saiful

The Bersatu disciplinary board has postponed its proceedings against the party’s supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan, due to a member’s absence and the lack of a quorum.

According to a Bersatu source, the decision was also made to prevent “outsiders” from making premature judgments before the disciplinary board could review Wan Saiful’s case after the meeting had been leaked on social media.

“This matter (the postponement) comes after the spread of issues related to the disciplinary board’s session on social media.

“To protect the party’s confidentiality and dignity, and to avoid any pre-judgment from external parties, this was also considered a part of the reason for the postponement,” the source said.

A Malaysiakini check at the Bersatu headquarters in Petaling Jaya today found no sign of Wan Saiful, who is Tasek Gelugor MP, or the disciplinary board’s members.

Wan Saiful had initially been summoned by Bersatu’s disciplinary board for allegedly collecting statutory declarations (SDs), believed to be orchestrated in an attempt to push for party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation.

‘Twisted narrative’

Earlier today, Wan Saiful confirmed that there had been efforts to collect SDs from party division chiefs, who had allegedly sought a party leadership change before the party’s annual general meeting on Sept 9.

However, he insisted that the narrative had been “twisted by certain parties” to tarnish the original intentions behind the move.

“The part about collecting the SDs is true, but I believe certain parties have twisted the story about its actual intentions and what it aimed to achieve.

“Let me meet the party’s disciplinary board and explain to them first before commenting further,” he said.

Wan Saiful confirmed the postponement when contacted.

“I was informed as such. I have already called the disciplinary board secretary and asked him to inform me if a new date has been set.

“I do want to attend the proceedings, because I want to ask the person who made the accusation where he even heard the stories from,” he told Malaysiakini.

Wan Saiful also claimed that the accusations were made by Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.

“The one who accused me is Tun Faisal, the party’s information chief,” he added.
