A rights group has called on the government to apply the same process to stateless children as it did for seven foreign-born football players who were granted Malaysian citizenship.

In a statement today, the Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas (DHRRA) cited National Registration Department (NRD) director-general Badrul Hisham Alias’ explanation that the footballers were granted citizenship via Article 19 of the Federal Constitution under special circumstances.
