• Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Fadzli Hassan urged the government to revoke diesel subsidies for lorries that transport foreign snacks, carbonated drinks, alcohol, and luxury goods.

  He argued that the global corporations that produce these goods can foot the extra transportation cost, and it is a means to reduce leakages in fuel subsidies.

  

  This, he said, should be done before the government considers any adjustments to RON95 subsidies.

  “The logic is simple. Stop corporate leakage first before touching the people’s pockets. Giant companies should not feel comfortable while the people are pressured,” Fadzli said in a statement yesterday.

• The National Registration Department (NRD) said the transition to the new MyKads starting next month will not impact aid to the public for those still using their existing identity cards.

  In a statement last night, it said the current MyKad can still be used for the Rahmah Necessities Aid and Budi95 redemptions.

  NRD would also ensure that the list of recipients in government aid systems remains intact and that no eligible recipient will be excluded during the transition.
