Harapan unveils Johor candidates, Maszlee for PKR in Puteri Wangsa
Pakatan Harapan has unveiled the coalition’s list of 56 candidates to contest the 16th Johor state election, featuring both incumbents and newcomers from PKR, DAP and Amanah.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Harapan chairperson, made the announcement during an event in Tangkak, Johor, tonight, alongside top component party leaders.
Pakatan Harapan has unveiled the coalition’s list of 56 candidates to contest the 16th Johor state election, featuring both incumbents and newcomers from PKR, DAP and Amanah.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Harapan chairperson, made the announcement during an event in Tangkak, Johor, tonight, alongside top component party leaders.
Anwar said that Harapan had vetted 1,000 prospective candidates ahead of this year's Johor state election, all of whom met the required criteria, and from this pool, 56 were chosen.
PKR’s sole incumbent Arthur Chiong will be defending his Bukit Batu seat, while the party’s list of 19 other contenders also included former Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik in Puteri Wangsa, as well as former Semerah assemblyperson Khuzzan Abu Bakar who will recontest the seat he last won in 2018.
PKR is also fielding Batu Pahat MP Onn Abu Bakar in Senggarang.
DAP’s full line-up of 17 candidates announced tonight similarly included a mix of incumbents and newcomers.
Among new faces announced tonight was Paloh contender, Dr Ruban Arumugam.
The party had previously announced five candidates: Lawyer Chu Poh Yee (Mengkibol), Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani (Tiram), Johor DAP Youth chief Lee Wern Yiing (Johor Jaya), former incumbent Wong Bor Yang (Senai) and special assistant to Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, Shafwan Ani (Bukit Permai).
Meanwhile, contrary to initial speculations, Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan was not featured in the party’s list of 19 candidates.
Instead, Johor Amanah vice-chief Zuhan Zain was announced as Harapan’s candidate for Mahkota, while former Kota Iskandar assemblyperson Dzulkefly Ahmad is recontesting the seat he last won in 2018.
Amanah’s Pulai MP Suhaizan Kaiat is contesting the Larkin seat, while the party’s sole incumbent Nazri Abdul Rahman is recontesting the Simpang Jeram seat.
Among the party newcomers are lawyer Norhafiz Roslan, fielded in the Machap seat held by caretaker Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi, as well as its first Chinese candidate, Permas contender Teo Siew Hui.

Actually with all the regression caused by the corrupted and incompetent administrations of Najib,Muyhiddin and Sabri the nation needs primarily economic stability and rejuvenation/growth as the only overriding criteria to select a leader who can achieve it. He must have the guts,ability and X factor internationally to deal with other countries heads of States and corporate titans. All I see with PAS, Bersatu, UMNO are leaders fixated with race,religion, position, power and together with Deep State afraid of moving the country forward into a globalised 21st century where the path to success is based on performance and an understanding of Artificial intelligence. East Malaysian parties are currently parochial and certainly do not want to sit at Putrajaya where they have the headache of more race,religion, Deep State rhetoric to deal with on a basis and figure out how to balance the national budget
