• Incumbent Layang-Layang assemblyperson Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim has quit Umno to join Bersatu, with immediate effect.

  At a press conference at the Pagoh Bersatu office today, he also confirmed that he will contest the seat in the upcoming Johor election as a Perikatan Nasional candidate.

  Sinar Harian quoted Abd Mutalip (above) as saying that he decided to contest in the election due to the demand from voters who want him to continue representing them.

  He also said he has no quarrel with Umno or the Simpang Renggam Umno division chief, Onn Hafiz Ghazi, emphasising that political parties are merely a platform to serve the people.

Floods

• The Selangor government has identified cable theft as one of the factors hampering its flood management efforts.

  Its exco member for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said that following the flood at Kampung RTB Bukit Changgang due to a breached bund yesterday, it was found that a screw pump installed five years ago had failed to function because its cables were stolen, preventing effective drainage.

  

  He said similar activities were also discovered earlier at a project in Kuala Selangor.

  The state government is considering measures such as installing CCTV cameras and other security measures to curb such crimes, Bernama quoted him as saying.
