Fuel supplies

• Petronas has enough fuel supplies to keep its petrol stations primed until August, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said.

  Free Malaysia Today reported Azalina as saying that Petronas’ nationwide network of petrol stations supplies about 50 percent of the country’s fuel demand.

  

  In a written parliamentary reply yesterday, Azalina said the latest projections had been tabled at the weekly National Economic Action Council meeting.

Johor polls

• Parti Rakyat Malaysia has backtracked on an earlier decision to contest the Johor election.

  Its secretary-general, Koh Swe Yong, said party president Ahmad Jufliz Faiza previously announced on June 14 that the party would contest two seats.

  

  After receiving feedback, however, the party decided to skip the Johor polls to focus on preparations for parliamentary elections, intending to contest 150 of the 222 seats.

  “Parliament is more important because national laws and policies are drafted and passed in parliament,” Koh said.

Industrial grant 

• Some RM185 million has been earmarked for Malaysian industries to develop technologies to further tap into the advanced semiconductor packaging market, said the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.

  The research, development, innovation, commercialisation and economy programme will be in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia through the Malaysia Science Endowment (MSE), Bernama reported.

  Of the total RM185 million, RM92 million will be provided through the MSE, with RM93 million matched by industry partners, the ministry said in a written parliamentary reply on the Dewan Rakyat’s website.

  

  The programme is aimed at helping Malaysian businesses capture seven percent of the global advanced packaging market, which is estimated to be worth US$45.13 billion.

  The five participating companies are SkyeChip Bhd, Inari Technology Sdn Bhd, FusionAP Sdn Bhd, Pentamaster Instrumentation Sdn Bhd and NSW Automation Sdn Bhd, the ministry said.
