Politics

  • Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros has reportedly urged the party’s supreme council member Puad Zarkashi to remain loyal.

This came after Puad (above) expressed reservations about the party’s candidates for the upcoming Johor election and said he will be making an “important announcement” during nomination day on June 27.

Azleen reportedly said loyalty to the party should not be seasonal or contingent on posts.

“We should not be threatening or provoking the party when we don’t have any posts (in Johor Umno). We should remain loyal,” he was quoted as saying.

Last week, Puad said he would not be defending his Rengit seat, citing his age as the main factor.

Fuel subsidies

  • The federal government will introduce a mechanism that would allow eligible people in rural Sarawak to continue purchasing subsidised diesel for their generators.

Borneo Post quoted Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan saying the government recognises that many communities in Sarawak’s interior rely on generators for electricity.

“For those living in remote areas, we have a mechanism. Just as we use the Sarawak Rivers Board to identify eligible boat operators, residents in longhouses will be identified through the Resident’s Office.

“That person’s IC will be activated. Once activated, they can go to the designated place to buy diesel supplies at the subsidised price,” Amir said.

Transport

  • The guidelines on the Low Altitude Economy (LAE) being developed by the Civil Aviation Authority are expected to be unveiled during the Transport Expo Asia in October, Bernama reported.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the LAE sector offers significant economic opportunity for Malaysia, as the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and drone technology sectors are expanding rapidly, supported by billions in global investments.

LAE refers to economic activities and public services carried out within the low-altitude airspace ecosystem, using technologies such as drones, AAM, air logistics, infrastructure inspections, smart agriculture, and emergency services.
