‘Corporate mafia’

• MCA has joined a civil society-led initiative to pressure the government to set up a royal commission of inquiry to investigate allegations of collusion between a purported “corporate mafia” and MACC officers.

  In a statement, MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong said two MPs from the party have also endorsed #RCINOW Secretariat’s memorandum yesterday, namely Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong and Tanjung Piai MP Wee Jeck Seng, following news that 34 had already signed up.

  “When an institution entrusted with upholding integrity faces serious allegations itself, only an independent inquiry can uncover the truth,” he said.

• The Malacca government will not fill vacancies left by Pakatan Harapan representatives following the coalition’s decision yesterday to leave the state cabinet, Bernama reported.

  This is because there is only a short time left in the state administration’s mandate.

  

  “We will not make any new appointments because there’s not much time left to serve,” said Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh.

  The Malacca state assembly’s term expires on Dec 27, but Rauf had previously said a snap election could be called in September.
