• Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s “AI avatar” - a WhatsApp chatbot - is live and comes with a caveat that: “PMX AI can make mistakes, so please check important info”.

  Malaysiakini’s brief testing of the bot shows that it shares the usual weaknesses of chatbots, as it is susceptible to influence and manipulation.

  For example, Malaysiakini was able to get the Anwar chatbot to agree that Section 48 of the Cybercrimes Bill - which allows the government to surveil suspects of any alleged crime - should be amended to add safeguards.

  The bot also expressed concerns about the Umno-PAS partnership in Negeri Sembilan, citing the erosion of trust between races when they previously partnered as Muafakat Nasional.

  However, the bot would almost always include a disclaimer that it is only a digital avatar and not Anwar himself.
