BN-PN secures two-thirds, no Indian in state govt, opposition without Malay

Unofficial: BN-PN secures two-thirds, no Indian in state govt

9pm - All seats have been accounted for, and BN and PN have won 25 seats in total, while Pakatan Harapan has won 11.

This grants BN a two-thirds majority in the state legislature.

A breakdown of the winning parties is as follows:

• Umno - 16 (Pertang, Sungai Lui, Palong, Jeram Padang, Lenggeng, Juasseh, Seri Menanti, Senaling, Pilah, Johol, Labu, Chembong, Rantau, Kota, Linggi, Gemencheh)

• MCA - two (Chennah, Repah)

• PAS - four (Serting, Ampangan, Paroi, Bagan Pinang)

• Parti Wawasan Negara - three (Klawang, Sikamat, Gemas)

• DAP - nine (Bahau, Nilai, Lobak, Temiang, Bukit Kepayang, Rahang, Mambau, Seremban Jaya, and Lukut)

• PKR - two (Chuah, Sri Tanjung)

A total of eight seats changed hands.

DAP lost two (Chennah, Repah) to MCA, while Umno flipped Pilah (PKR) and Labu (Bersatu).

Wawasan Negara bagged one seat each from Amanah (Klawang), PKR (Sikamat), Bersatu (Gemas), while PAS took Ampangan from PKR.

MIC and MIPP lost in all the seats they contested, meaning there will be no Indians in the new state government.

Meanwhile, no Malay candidates from Harapan won, meaning there will be no Malays in the state opposition.

Loke mulls resigning as state DAP chief

8.58pm - Anthony Loke announced that he is considering resigning as Negeri Sembilan DAP chief to take responsibility for the party’s overall results today, according to Sin Chew Daily.

The DAP secretary-general added that he would raise the matter at the upcoming DAP central executive committee meeting and let it decide.

Unofficial: BN-PN wins N Sembilan

8.30pm - BN and Perikatan Nasional have won the Negeri Sembilan state election, according to unofficial results.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki claims BN and PN have won enough seats, 18 and five seats, respectively, to form the next state government.

Malaysiakini's own count also indicates that they have crossed the threshold.

Their victory comes with several seats flipped from Pakatan Harapan, namely Chennah, Sikamat, Ampangan, and Repah, thus far.

Loke: We will continue to stand with all of you

8.22pm - According to a video uploaded on the Sin Chew Daily Facebook page, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke conceded defeat in a short speech.

He said the Pakatan Harapan campaign team did its utmost in Chennah but still lost by more than 500 votes.

“I would like to thank everyone. Please don't be disheartened or disappointed. We will continue to stand with all of you.

"Although we were unable to win this seat, all of you will always remain in our hearts," he said.

MCA picks up another seat

8.15pm - After beating DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke in his seat Chennah, MCA has also picked up another DAP seat - Repah.

Like Chennah, it was a very close race, and unofficial results indicate BN only won the seat with less than 450 votes.

Loke loses in Chennah

8.05pm - DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has lost Chennah to BN, according to unofficial results.

It was a close race, but as of writing, BN has 5,418 votes, crossing the 50 percent threshold. Loke is trailing with 4,762 votes.

PN wins in Gemas

8pm - As of writing, here are the seats that have been declared unofficially.

BN has retained: Pertang, Sungai Lui, Palong, Jeram Padang, Lenggeng, Juasseh, Seri Menanti, Johol, Chembong, and Gemencheh.

PN, meanwhile, has captured Gemas from Bersatu.

On the Pakatan Harapan side, DAP has retained Bahau, Nilai, Lobak, Temiang, Bukit Kepayang, Rahang, Mambau, and Lukut.

Aminuddin fails to flip Linggi

7.50pm - Unofficial results indicate that caretaker menteri besar Aminuddin Harun has lost in Linggi.

With 31 out of 42 polling streams counted, BN is leading by 1,600 votes and has crossed the expected 50 percent threshold to retain the seat.

Meanwhile, BN has also retained Palong while DAP has retained Mambau.

MCA leads in Chennah

7.43pm - It's down to the wire in Chennah.

As of the latest update, MCA is leading with 4,608 votes while DAP chief Anthony Loke is trailing by almost 450 votes.

The race is almost reaching its end.

DAP set to win Bukit Kepayang, Lobak

7.30pm - Unofficial results indicate that DAP has won Bukit Kepayang, where it has continued to maintain a huge lead over Perikatan Nasional.

Malaysiakini does not expect PN to be able to catch up in the non-Malay majority seat where only 28.2 percent of voters are Malay.

Meanwhile, BN is set to win Gemencheh, where it is leading with over 3,600 votes, with 35 out of 53 ballot boxes counted.

DAP has also won Lobak, where it is leading by 7,000 votes.

Eyes on Chennah

7.25pm - In DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke's seat Chennah, the early race is neck-and-neck.

Thus far, only 4,000 of the 14,422 eligible votes have been counted unofficially, but with each update, Loke and his MCA rival Siow Kong Choon overtake each other.

As of writing, Siow is leading with 2,224 votes against 1,825 for Loke.

DAP and BN neck-and-neck in Repah, Rahang

7.10pm - As of writing, DAP is maintaining a comfortable early lead in Bahau, Nilai, Lobak, Temiang, Bukit Kepayang, Mambau, Seremban Jaya, Lukut.

Meanwhile, in Repah and Rahang, the race between DAP and BN is neck-and-neck.

On the BN side, they're taking a comfortable lead in Pertang, Palong, Gemencheh, Linggi, and Rantau, while PN has a huge early lead in Gemas.

Umno sec-gen: BN in front in 13 seats

7pm - As of writing, no seats are ready to be declared even based on unofficial results.

However, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki says that BN is in the lead in 13 seats.

Results shown at BN's headquarters in Negeri Sembilan indicate that in most seats, only four to six ballot boxes have been accounted for, meaning there is a wide margin to cover.

Malaysiakini will only declare seats that have been won.

DAP ahead in Bukit Kepayang, Lobak

6.50pm - In Bukit Kepayang and Lobak, DAP is taking an early lead over PN.

In Bukit Kepayang, DAP has almost 2,400 votes against 744, while in Lobak, DAP has over 1,700 votes against 139.

DAP has held Lobak since 2004 and Bukit Kepayang since 2008.

70pct turnout

6.45pm - Institut Darul Ehsan, citing the Election Commission, states that turnout at 5pm was at 70.15 percent, about 1.8 percentage points higher than the last state polls.

The EC has not released this data on their social media.

Bahau was listed as the lowest turnout at that time at 63.6 percent. However, this is three percentage points higher than previously.

In contrast, the second lowest turnout at 5pm was in Lobak at 64.2 percent, almost two percentage point lower than previously.

PN opens lead in Gemas

6.35pm - Perikatan Nasional is taking an early lead in Gemas, with 1,218 votes against 157 for Pakatan Harapan, and 51 for the incumbent Bersatu.

The PN candidate for Gemas is from Parti Wawasan Negara - a Bersatu splinter party.

Meanwhile, results from early voting in Linggi and Rantau indicate that the BN-PN camp has the support of the armed forces and police.

In Linggi, BN bagged 719 of the early votes, while 250 went to Harapan and 32 to Bersatu.

In Rantau, 446 early votes went to BN, while 42 were bagged by Harapan.

Unofficial: BN takes early lead in Rahang

6.20pm - BN has taken a wide early lead in Rahang, according to unofficial results from DAP.

As of writing, BN has 1,315 votes, while Pakatan Harapan has 157 in the DAP stronghold. However, this accounts for only eight percent of eligible votes.

Rahang is a non-Malay majority seat, where 43.5 percent of voters are Chinese, 22.5 percent Indian, and 30.7 percent Malay.

Voting ends, unofficial results trickling in

6pm - Voting has ended, and unofficial results are beginning to trickle in.

Malaysiakini will wait for more substantive numbers before reporting early results.

Unlike in the Johor polls, the Election Commission has not released the 5pm turnout numbers as of writing. That data was released at 5.35pm during the Johor election.

However, final turnout is expected to exceed the 68.3 percent mark set by the 2023 state polls.

Seri Menanti and Labu are expected to exceed their previous turnouts in their respective seats, while Kota, an Umno stronghold, surpassed that benchmark at 4pm.

Turnout in Labu and Lobak were trailing behind the 2023 numbers at 4pm, but there is a chance that gap can be closed.

Three seats exceed 70pct turnout mark

5.30pm - Turnout as of 4pm is at 65.38 percent, which is 3.49 percentage points higher than turnout during the 2023 state election.

In terms of individual seats, at least three - Kota, Seri Menanti, and Labu - have exceeded the 70 percent mark.

However, at least three seats, Bahau, Lukut, and Lobak, are still at 59 percent turnout.

The turnouts for Lukut and Lobak - which are non-Malay majority seats - have been the lowest throughout the day.
