Two Pahang opposition reps vow support for Umno MB until next polls

Two Pahang opposition assemblypersons have vowed their support for Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail's leadership until the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

The duo - Kuala Sentul representative Jasri Jamaludin and Lepar's Yazid Yunus - announced the decision through a joint statement issued to the press at 1am today.

"This position was supported by our party's (Bersatu) top leadership, taking into consideration the need to ensure political stability in Pahang and the welfare of the people in our constituencies.

"With the consensus reached with the Pahang menteri besar, we believe that the development and well-being of the people in Kuala Sentul and Lepar will continue to be given attention by the Pahang state government," they stated.

When contacted later, Jasri explained that their support for the Umno leader does not mean they will join the party.

"We are not joining Umno... we remain in Bersatu, but only supporting Wan Rosdy's leadership until the next election," he said.

According to Jasri, they will continue to play their role as the people's representative to ensure stability and prioritise good governance.

With Jasri and Yazid's support, Wan Rosdy now has the backing of 27 assemblypersons in the 42-member state legislative assembly.

Before this, only 17 assemblypersons from BN and eight from Pakatan Harapan supported the state government, while the opposition consisted of 15 from PAS and two from Bersatu.

In June, PAS announced its decision to sever its political cooperation with Bersatu.
