On Waytha's Passport Revoked - Amnesty

Ravi Chitty: It appears that the government loves to rub salt to the injury that they have already suffered on March 8. In spite of the fact that there has been a lack of (perhaps a complete absence) of evidence that warrants any form of charges to the Hindraf 5 and P Waythamoorthy, let alone the draconian ISA, they persist in aggravating the issue.

I beseech the government to do what is morally right, that is to immediately release the Hindraf 5 and charge them in the open court if there are ANY charges to be answered to. The same is to be expected for Waytha. You cannot revoke his ‘state-ship’ by virtue of the justice he is seeking for.

The government led by PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi must not merely ‘explain’ but undo all the injustice inflicted on these six people for they are doing what is rightfully their right to speak, fight and work for the downtrodden of this country.

I believe that such an action by the government is regressive and will merely invite more disappointment, disgust and disdain from all Anak Bangsa Malaysia. This will merely expedite the demise of BN as the government of Malaysia.

On The domino effect - how it could all play out

ABC: What may Pakatan Rakyat’s strategy be like in the ‘cross-over’ rumour? To enhance its credibility, would Pakatan be calling for its potential MPs from BN (especially from Sabah and also Sarawak?) to resign en bloc and contest in a by-election at an opportune time?

Could the rakyat anticipate this to be the strategy, as some may perceive by-elections of a group would be more effective than a piecemeal one? Would not the former also offer greater publicity and synergy? Would Anwar Ibrahim time his Parliament re-entry via such a strategic and synergistic move?

Aloysius Choo: For our Barisan Alternatif, the real struggle has just started. I will support in anyway I can. To win is one thing, to maintain victory is more than just one thing. The rakyat must know all the difficulties our BA will be struggling with to keep their manifesto in place. BN will definitely not make it easy for our BA to achieve it. So what must we do?

I would strongly suggest that the rakyat start their own TV and radio channels especially for the five states our BA won. Since the beginning, RTM only shows what BN wants to show. This time, we should have our own broadcasting channel to show every move BN intends to make and take to let our BA down and eventually rakyat. BN will definitely broadcast their side of their story and falsely claim that BA cannot manage our country.

Ahmad Fuad Abdul Rahman: The royal commission has spoken? So what? What is next? Isn't the commission only supposes to ‘recommend’? Just as they had ‘recommended’ the setting up of the IPCMC? Relax Malaysia - enjoy the show?

Megat Terawis: I sincerely question the authorities’ decision in regards to the exorbitant amount of RM542.10 to access the result of their findings pertaining to the Lingam Tape issue. With the current state of price increase of goods affecting the rakyat, the logic of such an amount is quite ridiculous.

The report should be made public without any charge or at a lesser price through the use of an e-book, perhaps in .pdf format, available for download for the rakyat of Malaysia.

On NS good but needs more commonsense

A Malaysian Who Cares: The truth about NS camps? Well, the evaluation forms which were truthfully filled by the trainees went missing, so said the camp commanders. Those trainees were then told to fill a second one. How do you think the young trainees - who are at the mercy of the commanders - will fill them up the second time?Your guess is as good as mine.

Then perfectly healthy trainees suffered several episodes of diarrhoea during the three months at NS camps. At the end of the three months, the trainees had lost at least 15kg and mind you the trainees weren't even overweight to start with. This is the truth fresh from the NS camps.

Don't just continue tweaking the NS programme. It was flawed from the start. Scrap the NS for the sake of our own conscience and soul.

On Khairy's NEP question causes a stir

Ming-Hoe Kiu: I think this is a lesson learned for the opposition. However, please keep in mind that I'm not familiar with parliamentary procedures. I think the proper and more productive thing to do for Lim Kit Siang is to wait for the Amirsham to complete his answer, follow up with a rebuttal before pointing out that Amirsham operated outside of the parliamentary rule.

For the nation to be able to discuss and debate the NEP issues and shortfalls, the leaders needs to be able to demonstrate rationality. It is especially important for the opposition leaders to do so in order to show the difference that the opposition can approach the issue (or any other issue) in a constructive way.

On Mahathir: I have met Najib

KSN: Malaysians should be shivering in their pants and skirts. This is no joke, folks. Reflect on the irreparable damage TDM has done to this country destroying every institution and taking it down the wrong path without salvation, to put it in the briefest possible terms. Imagine TDM's proxy becoming the PM of Malaysia continuing the policies and practices of 23 years of Mahathir for another 23 years!

But fate takes strange turns as the recent elections showed as Malaysians have grown up and woken up. All calculations of vested interests will come to nothing if our people are alert. We are not taking anything and anybody for granted by keeping the government of the day on its toes by questioning all policies and plans, whether they in the interests of the country and whether they are transparent and fair to all our people.

If not why should TDM be so eager to meet Najib? He is an old retired pensioner who does not know how to call it day still unsatisfied with the destruction he has caused to our nation. Right folks?

On Commandos under fire for abusing trainees

Ruben Tan Long Zheng: While I generally agree with PKR's policy, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is just plain uninformed. Commandos are special elite forces in the military and they have to train to adapt to various survival conditions, be it arctic, jungle, desert and urban warfare. And one of the modules is interrogation.

If you are familiar with US Navy Seal training modules, one of the modules consist of being captured and interrogated, in which you are submitted to real torture techniques and physical mind games designed to test your mental capabilities and how well you can apply the lessons you learned about handling interrogating situations on paper to real life situations. And they are not the only ones who get this training - most elite forces like the sniper training in the US military and the famed SAS, too, have that in their training.

We're not talking about how the army personnel treat national service kids but real soldiers who'll fight through dirt, mud, snow, ice, sand, and rubble to protect our country and our lives. Does Saifuddin actually expect them to be trained like management trainees in nice air-conditioned rooms and maybe a glass of martini at the end of the course? Be realistic. Stop the ‘opposition mentality’ that criticises every government policy regardless of its sensibility and logic. Be reasonable, please.

On Cyclone: Buddhist chief appeals to Burma junta

Joe Fernandez: The UN Security Council should authorise a Coalition of the Willing to force the military junta in Rangoon to surrender to the United Nations authority in wake of Cyclone Nargis which have now left 2.5 million people in dire need and thousands of dead and dying.

The refusal of the military junta to let in aid workers and the confiscation of incoming aid for

itself is totally unacceptable. Since the military junta won't allow the international community to help save the people of Burma, it's time for the UN Security Council to act and act immediately.
