Loke to finish up work in China before settling resignation

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke is tying up some loose ends before he quits as transport minister.
Loke is in Beijing, China, today for a two-day Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) transport ministers’ meeting.
This follows Loke’s Saturday announcement that he would resign as minister to show DAP’s position on former premier Najib Abdul Razak being granted house arrest.
The Transport Ministry said in a statement today that several important memoranda of understanding would be signed during the Apec meeting.
He will then travel to Shanghai to join Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage, before returning to Malaysia to settle his resignation.
'A man of principle'
Anwar had said that he would hear Loke out before deciding on the resignation.

“He has informed me, but I haven’t had the chance to discuss anything with him yet. I need to hear his views, but I understand because he is a man of principle.
“From the start, he has been consistent in opposing anything that could give the impression that we are weak or lenient on corruption. Especially when we are taking action against many others, including petty corrupt figures.
“Therefore, it is best that I meet him, listen to his views, and only then can I make a decision,” Bernama quoted Anwar (above) as saying last night.
However, Anwar said the meeting would likely happen after they both return to Malaysia.
Conditional house arrest
DAP has opposed clemency for Najib (below), who was found guilty of criminal breach of trust and money laundering in the SRC International and 1MDB cases.

On Friday, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong granted Najib house arrest for the remainder of his SRC International sentence, which will end on Aug 23, 2028. However, this is subject to the former prime minister paying a RM50 million fine.
Loke had said that he would be the only one from DAP to resign in response to Najib’s house arrest, to ensure the government remains stable.

I am sure Anwar is very capable of soothing Anthony Loke’s hurt feelings and give him some candies to persuade him to withdraw his resignation. What Loke needs is for Anwar to help him save face. Loke should know that his service is not needed in China because Wee Ka Siong has a better command of Chinese language and can easily settle any outstanding issues in China as the new Transport Minister. Anthony Loke and DAP supporters cannot expect Anwar to give the minister post to another DAP leader because they have been using their minister positions to pressure the PM by threatening to resign whenever they don’t like Anwar’s decision and policies. Instead of helping Anwar, DAP leaders have been giving him a lot of headaches.
Anwar Ibrahim, you're supposed to read the comments by G25, which actually say out clearly what the majority of right-thinking Malaysians are feeling. Dismayed, disappointed and angry with your flimsy reason for asking people to accept the decision while insulting the intelligence of the people. You cannot hide behind the crown and tell people to respect the decision while doing something for a future deal. The conditional pardon, on top of the discounted pardon given earlier, stinks beyond belief.
