House arrest: Najib yet to settle RM50m fine - AG

Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar said the fine must be paid at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar’s Office, as the case was filed and heard there.
“As of now, Najib’s family has not paid the fine. Once payment is made, I cannot say exactly when Najib will be brought home, as the process may take some time,” he said when contacted today.
He added that the standard operating procedures for the implementation of the house-arrest arrangement would be issued by the Prison Department.
A Bernama check at the Kajang Prison today found no activity involving the former Pekan MP.

Najib, 73, has been serving his sentence at the Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, following his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
On Sept 18, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence for the SRC International case under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

The arrangement is subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with the stipulated conditions.

Think getting the RM50 million is not a problem. The problem is how to give it without the authorities investigating the legality and source of the money.
Here’s the absurd part: what if he simply dips into the billions he misappropriated and stashed in foreign accounts, then pays the fine to secure his cozy ‘house arrest’? How much more has he hidden from public view? We’re talking about sums in the billions! And who exactly is going to verify the source of the RM50 million used to pay the fine? In the end, Malaysian taxpayers are once again treated like fools — footing the bill while corruption gets a slap on the wrist.
Just a matter of time. Looking for the right explanation on source of 50 million.
