Upside-down flags and dog whistling
Another series of flag gaffes, this time involving upside-down Jalur Gemilang, is causing racial tensions in the country.
The two latest incidents occurred at a school in Negeri Sembilan and a hardware store in Penang.
One is a Chinese school, and the other, a Chinese-owned business.
As always, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh is one of the loudest critics.
And while he likely won't admit to racialising the issue, his use of the word “apek” and claiming his critics don't understand Malay further reinforce Malay vs Chinese sentiments, as evidenced by comments on his Facebook posts.

Zafrul officially in PKR
Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has been granted PKR membership, less than three months after quitting Umno.
The party leadership had confirmed his application on July 26. He is now registered with the Ampang division.
Zafrul's final term as senator ends in December, after which he will have to exit the cabinet.
Speculation is rife that he may contest for a parliamentary seat sooner or later.

The death of Zara Qairina Mahathir
The death of a 13-year-old student in Sabah has rocked the nation.
Zara Qairina Mahathir was found unconscious in a drain below her school dormitory in Papar on July 16 and died the following day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
Her family believes bullying may have played a role.
Her death has sparked claims that individuals linked to VVIPs were involved.
However, these allegations have not been substantiated. Higher Education Deputy Minister Mustapha Sakmud and Sabah Science Minister Arifin Arif have denied claims that implicated their family members.
The family and others have also questioned whether police had bungled investigations, leading to the teen's remains being exhumed for a second post-mortem.
