We were in exco to avert snap polls, say PAS Four

Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Ab Samad insists that the four PAS members remained in the executive council, despite the sacking of their Pakatan Rakyat colleagues, for the sake of the ruling coalition. 

 

Iskandar said that had it not been for the four, Selangor would have gone back to the polls. 

 

The Cempaka assemblyperson is among the four who served under former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim until his last day on Monday.

 

He also vehemently refuted that they had worked with Umno, and had lobbied for Umno assemblypersons to join the exco.

 

“There were times in the past one and a half months when the state government was on the brink of collapse but the four exco members from PAS were instructed by the party to remain in the government, and we succeeded in saving the government from collapse," said Iskandar ( left ).

 

“The fact is, the four exco members prevented a snap election from happening. 

 

“Even though all were from PAS, we carried the Pakatan spirit and principles throughout the period and defended Pakatan interests in the state government,” added the state PAS chief in a statement. 

 

Continuation of policy

 

Iskandar said that this included ensuring that all local councillors nominated by PKR and DAP are not terminated from service, and that programmes planned by the Pakatan government continue.

 

On Monday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he “regretted” the fact that the four PAS exco members did not resign in solidarity with their Pakatan colleagues.

 

The PKR and DAP exco members (right) were sacked by Khalid, after they said they will not cooperate with him.

 

Khalid, who was sacked from PKR for refusing instructions to resign, eventually stepped down as MB. 

 

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali was appointed 15th Selangor menteri besar yesterday.
