Umno Tanjung Malim division has decided to cancel its plan to invite Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir to officiate its wings' simultaneous annual meetings tomorrow.

Division chief Khusairi Abdul Talib told Suara TV , the decision was made to ensure the political environment at the division level remains peaceful.

"I discussed with the respective wings' heads and we agreed to cancel the plan to invite Mukhriz and have Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir officiate the meetings," he said.

"The decision was made to ensure the political situation in Tanjung Malim remains calm so that there would be no problems because we do not want elements to divide people's support towards the president Najib Abdul Razak," he added.

Khusairi said they had informed the Kedah Menteri Besar office this afternoon.

He added the cancellation was to prevent division members from being confused over the present political situation in the country which he described as “hot”.

“Prior to this, we have been informed that he (Mukhriz) had confirmed his attendance. However, after some consideration, we had to cancel our intention to invite the Kedah MB.

“One of the key factors is Mukhriz's speech at the simultaneous launch of Cheras Umno division wings recently and our fear is that if he delivers the same speech at the Tanjung Malim Umno division, it would result in confusion among Umno members, especially among the delegates,” he said.

Mukhriz in his speech at the Cheras Umno division warned party leaders not to " shoot the messenger ", especially when they pass on information that leaders do not like to hear.

"There are leaders who do not like to take advice and when they are reprimanded, then the messenger gets shot," the Kedah MB had said.

Khusairi further explained he did not want to take the risk of seeing a rift in the division by inviting Mukhriz.

He said come elections, the division wanted to ensure victory for the state seats and the Tanjung Malim parliamentary seat.

“The division stands united with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who is also Umno president,” he said.
