The cabinet and BN will be both complicit and responsible for the current crisis plaguing the country if they do not speak up or take immediate action.
Incarcerated former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said this in his latest comment on the nation’s state of crisis, made through his lawyers yesterday.
“The nation is in a state of crisis, economic and political, yet the BN government seems incapable or unwilling to take strong, decisive and immediate action.
“Najib and his government appear to be more interested in their own political survival than in the interests of the nation,” he said.
Anwar added that the serious allegations against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak ( photo ) in the 1MDB scandal had been compounded by recent machinations including the sacking of the former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and the gross interference in the MACC's duties.
This has resulted in the ringgit worsening to historic lows and investor confidence evaporating which will lead to serious consequences for the well-being of every Malaysian, noted Anwar.
Pointing out how 'countless patriotic Malaysians' have sacrificed a great deal to protect and develop the country, Anwar questioned whether this was how Najib repaid them.
“Is this how Najib and his associates repay them? By bringing the country to the brink of ruin?” he queried.
Growing criticism
In calling for all political parties, leaders as well as elected representatives to set aside their differences, Anwar urged them 'to put the interest of the nation and our people above all other considerations'.
“With courage and resolution, we can yet overcome this crisis and put in place urgent reform to restore democracy and save this nation.
“But time is of the essence, action must be immediate,” he stressed.
Najib continues to garner growing criticisms from friends and foe alike in wake of the ongoing 1MDB affair and the reported donation of RM2.6 billion by a Middle-Eastern donor into his personal bank account.
Apart from expected criticisms by the opposition, several Umno members have also made known their unhappiness with the premier.
Langkawi Wanita Umno chief Anina Saaduddin in her vitriolic speech the video of which has since gone viral, had said that Najib had 'lied' to all Umno members.
