LETTER | Are politicians holding the nation to ransom?

LETTER | It seems like politicians are holding our beloved country to ransom.

First, the democratically elected government, Pakatan Harapan, was derailed as it clocked a mere 22 months in office.

Second, the infamous 'Sheraton Move' is widely believed to be a political coup that gained traction despite the people's shock and subsequent disapproval.

Third, the endless horse-trading leading to politicians frogging their way in exchange for choice-appointments and juicy contracts has upped the public concerns.

Fourth, the convicted politicians and those compounded in court to settle eyebrow-raising tax evasions as well as those currently on trial in the Palace of Justice for various white-collar crimes seem to be riding high with their political appointments.

And now we are faced with yet another ransom with a politician throwing the spanner in the monkey's cage claiming he has the numbers to form a new government.

Added to the list of political ransom is also the fact that the sitting prime minister is under serious medical care and watch.

And let us not forget the stories we hear about how unethical and fraudulent tactics are going overdrive as Sabah heads for the ballot box.

We are yet to see what other political ransoms await us given the high probability of Sarawak heading for state election soon.

The economy and financial health of this nation are being hammered away not just because of the Covid-19 pandemic that has not spared the world in some measures.

In fact, all these political ransoms being hatched by our politicians are not helping ordinary citizens to live a life of hope.

It will only nudge the country into dangerous gorges of instability and unprecedented risks.

I will ask these politicians, where is your patriotism to the nation?

Where is your conscience when the people are burdened with the uncontrolled cost of living, job losses and health concerns?
