The PAS Youth movement will meet soon to decide on the appropriate measures to resolve the present turmoil sparked by the call from party spiritiual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat for a special muktamar to among other issues to replace several leaders.

nasrudin hassan tantawi pas youth leader interview 160609 04 PAS youth chief, Nasrudin Hassan ( right ), said he will look carefully at what prompted Nik Aziz's comments before submtting its recommendations to the party leadership.

"Looking at it now, it seems serious. I will call a meeting of the Youth movement to discuss the next course of action. It seems the matter has to be thoroughly thought out," Nasrudin Hassan told Malaysiakini , adding that the meeting will be called as soon as possible.

He was asked to comment on Nik Aziz's call for a special muktamar be held to discuss the action of "two or three leaders" including, its president Abdul Hadi Awang, and the call for them to be replaced.

Nik Aziz had made the suggestion on his blog, where he named the other two as party secretary-general Mustafa Ali and Selangor PAS chief, Hasan Ali.

The call was made after open their support for a unity government with Umno.

Nasrudin, when asked about the issue, said he did not think the problem would not last long.

"PAS has faced other internal problems in the past. Every time it happens, insya'allah (God willing) there will be a way out of it as the party always upholds Islamic principles. I believe what is happening now is temporary," he said.

Prior to this, the differences between the two leaders had been resolved following a meeting held in Kota Bharu.

The issue of a unity government was a hot topic among PAS delegates at its annual muktamar in Ipoh last year, and in Selangor in June.

After the muktamar, Nik Aziz was said to have held private meetings with several Erdogan leaders, who are opposed to the pro-unity government.

‘Leaders must meet regularly'

Nasrudin has urged the party leaders "to regularly meet and hold meetings" or hold "special discussions" to prevent disagreements .

"PAS leaders need to look at this issue seriously so as not to tarnish the party's struggles and sow confusion among our grassroots."

He also urged PAS members to "remain calm and not to speculate which would worsen the situation."

Questioned whether he agrees with the need of a special muktamar (EGM) to resolve the turmoil, Nasrudin said the party leadership needs to deliberate on it.

"We cannot decide on the matter spontaneously. If the party's syura council or the PAS central committee requires one third of PAS members to express their support and only then can the special muktamar be held," Nasrudin said.
