Selangor opposition leader Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, who was supposed to meet Port Klang assemblyperson Badrul Hisham Abdullah this evening, has postponed the meeting to tomorrow.

khir toyo pc on khir toyo mansion 060709 When contacted, the former Selangor menteri besar said the ex-PKR leader was unable to meet him as scheduled because he was attending to family matters in Kuala Selangor.

Initially, Mohd Khir said the state rep had agreed to meet him at the latter's residence in Port Klang at 5.30pm.

Previously, the opposition leader said he wanted to meet Badrul in order to express support for him since he has decided to quit PKR and become a Barisan Nasional-friendly independent.

When quizzed on whether Mohd Khir was on a mission to coax the state rep to join Umno, the former MB said: "This is not my position, it is up to Selangor Umno to convince him."

"As a friend, I am going there to support him," he added.

Last month, Badrul announced that he was resigning from the opposition party because of "moral and religious" grounds.

Among others, he had cited the sodomy allegation against Opposition Leader and PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim.

In the ongoing Selangor state assembly sitting, Badrul has been moved from his original sitting position with Pakatan Rakyat reps to behind the opposition BN reps.

Fifth Pakatan rep to quit

Badrul announced his resignation from PKR hours after Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim urged him to vacate his elected post.

The state rep, who won the seat in the last general elections, has long been criticised for his poor performance in his job.

NONE Yesterday, a group of PKR Youth members staged a protest outside the state secretariat building in Shah Alam demanding that Badrul quit his elected post.

Speculations of him joining Umno intensified when he attended a Hari Raya open house organised by Klang Umno chief.

Badrul is the fifth Pakatan Rakyat elected rep (three in Perak and one in Kedah) to have quit the coalition to become BN-friendly independents since early this year.

His resignation was also linked to the alleged plot by BN to seize control of Selangor like how the ruling coalition had done in Perak in February.
