Unisel chancellor - don't politicise issue
‘Not renewing Rosmah Mansor’s contract is nothing to crow about. Maybe a wiser course of action this time would be to appoint someone neutral to the position.’
Rosmah to lose Unisel chancellor post
Changeagent: As much as I am not a fan of Rosmah Mansor, I think that PKR vice-president Azmin Ali's Twitter posting has done himself no favours at all and was quite unbecoming for a senior PKR party member.
While it is the Selangor government's prerogative to decide whether Rosmah's tenure as Unisel chancellor be extended or not, there really is no need for anyone to take cheap shots by tweeting about it before the official decision is made.
Rayfire:
The job of university chancellor should be done by someone with strong academic interest and passion.Having said that, I do hope Pakatan Rakyat is not seeking cheap thrills in doing this. It should not be done to humiliate the person, but to offer the university and its students the best care possible.
This could be done only by a person who really understands the value of education and has the ability to contribute positively to its enrichment. Sorry to say, the current one does not fit the above requirements.
Ishak Bakar: I don't know why many people are so riled up against Rosmah. She is the prime minister's wife and best suited to solicit funds for the university to develop its education.
Malaysian: Isn't the chancellor’s position in Malaysian universities largely ceremonial, similar to the English system which we inherited? Most of the day-to-day administration of the university is performed by the vice-chancellor.
Not renewing her contract is nothing to crow about. Maybe a wiser course of action this time would be to appoint someone neutral to the position rather than one with affiliation to any political party.
MACC boss has eight-year contract
Tan Che Wee: Abu Kassim Mohamed, you will sleep well if carry out your duties without fear or favour. Show all Malaysians that those who are corrupt will be charged them. Make Malaysia a decent place for people to earn a living and show that you are truthful in carrying out your job.
Tan Teng Wah: Perhaps only a rare kind of anti-corruption outfit warrants a rare eight-year contract to be accorded to its chief. Sadly, his capability is yet unproven and the organisation has a controversial track record.
Does he need eight years to prove his worth? While he is attempting to show that he can handle ‘the gruelling task of fighting corruption without fear or favour’,
can the nation, with corruption having eaten deep into its core, wait that long? Will BN still rule within the eight years? What happens if the monk outlives the monastery?
KL sacks IAEA envoy after Iran atomic vote
Aishah: Are we a servants of America? As a Muslim country, we should not let Iran stand alone in her bid to reassert her legitimate right to develop her nuclear sector. Why can't Islamic countries like Iran assert that right? When can we expect all Islamic nations to stand behind our Islamic brothers on issues as critical as this? Congratulations, His Excellency the Ambassador.
Long Arm:
Defiance. It’s a sign of the times. And it's time Umno took notice. It's time we act independently on issues that require moral courage, not to the dictates of people who'll say anything to keep the oil taps of the Middle East open in their favour. Iraq is a clear example.
David Soong Tshon Li: Ambassador Mohd Arshad Manzoor Hussain’s dismissal over the incident is one of the very few examples of the Malaysia's foreign policy that I wholeheartedly agree with.
Citing the general policy of voting in line with the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) as an excuse for not obtaining specific instructions on such an important vote defies reason. If he was honestly not sure of how to vote, he should have abstained from voting instead of visiting this embarrassment upon all of us.
Karpal accuses judge of 'lying'
Victor Johan:
Is it okay for judges and/or court officials to allow Utusan Malaysia to use photos of the condominium? Isn't the room part of the exhibits' being tendered at the trial?Just like no one can snap pictures in the court room and of the exhibits, the same rule should apply to the condo’s interiors, the master bedroom, the bed, the attached bathroom, the curtains, the window, the light switches etc.
Ahmad Iqhbal: Of course Utusan Malaysia would want to reflect Anwar Ibrahim as guilty so as to please their masters. Whether it commits perjury or is in contempt of the court is secondary.
And shame on this judge for already showing bias so early in the case. Or is this judge actually opening an avenue for himself to be recused so as not to commit a crime against the oath he swore to uphold justice?
