Malay rights pressure group Perkasa has condemned the suspension of a school principal in Kulai Jaya, Johor and National Civics Bureau (BTN) deputy director Hamim Husin for allegedly uttering racial slurs.

NONE During a press conference at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kuala Lumpur, Perkasa vice-president Dr Zubir Harun ( second from left ) said that Perkasa also urges for the government to review the decision.

“The decision (to suspend them) was made by a disciplinary committee and it is more of an administrative or management decision.

“They weren’t brought to court. They weren’t tried in a process where the law would be applied,” said Zubir.

He said that Perkasa was willing to provide its lawyers in the event the duo decide to take legal action against their suspension.

Zubir was referring to the government’s announcement that the school principal in Kulai Jaya had been suspended for allegedly hurling racial slurs at Chinese and Indian minority students during a national day function.

Hamim was suspended for allegedly calling the Chinese “slant-eyed” and the Indians “alcoholics” during a closed-door Puteri Umno function.

What about Namewee?

NONE Meanwhile, Perkasa deputy president Abdul Rahman Bakar ( right ) said there appears to be double standards in how the authorities take action when it comes to racial issues.

He said that the authorities are quick to react to alleged offences committed by Malays while non-Malays are let off the hook.

“Perkasa feels that, it seems, anything that is voiced by the Malays will be regarded as wrong, if it doesn’t not benefit the Chinese community,” he said, while reading from a prepared statement.

He said that the situation was as though everything said by the Chinese community was correct “even when (some from) the Chinese community challenge provisions in the federal constitution”.

On the other hand, Malay rights issues raised by Perkasa are deemed racists but the Chinese community is allowed to reject the abolishment of Chinese medium schools.

“Perkasa regrets that Namewee is let off the hook while the authorities were quick to slap TV3 with a RM50,000 fine for touching on racial sensitivities (in an advertisement),” he said.

He urged the Attorney-General to expedite legal action against Namewee, who's real name is Wee Meng Chee, a popular singer-songwriter who’s social commentaries in his compositions have courted controversy .

“The failure of the government to take action will result in more Namewee’s appearing and this will cause chaos,” he said.

Roundtable on entertainment hub

Meanwhile, Perkasa Youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah said the movement would be organising a roundtable discussion with NGOs and religious figures over the federal government’s plans to turn Malaysia into an entertainment hub .

NONE “We want to obtain feedback from the Malay grassroots, religious scholars and the religious authorities,” he said, adding that discussions would be held after Aidiladha celebrations next Wednesday.

He added that the movement will convey the results of the roundtable discussion to the government.

Meanwhile, Perkasa deputy president Abdul Rahman Bakar urged the Attorney-General to take action against Malaysiakini for allegedly insulting the Malay Rulers.

Referring to a readers feedback column titled ‘ The day Ibrahim Ali’s mouth goes numb ’ on Oct 14, Abdul Rahman said Malaysiakini had published a reader’s comment which claims that “most sultans are under Umno’s thumb”.
