Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is expected to tell all over the latest exposures made by WikiLeaks as reported in several media, beginning a nationwide roadshow of ceramah at Taman Melati, in Wangsa Maju, Federal Territory tonight.

Anwar is scheduled to speak along with PAS’ Khalid Samad and DAP’s Teresa Kok. In a posting on his blog, Anwar said that a police permit has been obtained and the opposition leader will deliver his address tonight at 9pm.

azlan Prior to this, Sentul OCPD Assistant Commissioner Zakaria Pagan had said PKR has no permit to organise the talk and he had warned that action would be taken.

Commenting on the police ban , Anwar had tweeted: ‘Police disallow - a sign that Umno is afraid of clarifications. Attacked every day, replying not allowed’.

Wangsa Maju PKR division acting chief Mazlan Abdul Jalil said all the necessary preparations had been made at the ‘pasar malam site’, where between 50 and 60 personnel from PAS and PKR will be deployed to ensure security.

“We have also informed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the traders association,” he said, adding that he hoped that there would not be any disruptions. “I hope that there are no provocations to disrupt the event,” he said.

After Taman Melati, Anwar is expected to give talks in Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Pahang, Perak and Penang, all within this week.

It was reported by the Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday that a leaked US State Department diplomatic cable contained remarks by senior government officials that the sodomy charge against Anwar, who is also the Permatang Pauh MP, was a result of a “set-up job” by his enemies.

According to the newspaper, the cable in question revealed that former Singapore premier Lee Kuan Yew and Singaporean intelligence officials had told Australia’s intelligence agency, the Office of National Assessment (ONA), that “opposition leader Anwar ‘did indeed commit the acts for which he is currently indicted’.”
